The production of fundamental Chemicals by Shanghai Huayi (Group) Company is mainly distributed in Wusong and Wujing Bases. The enterprises involved are Shanghai Chlorine-Alkali Chemical Industry Corporation, Shanghai Coking & Chemical Corporation, Shanghai Wujing Chemical Co., Ltd, Shanghai Zhongyuan Chemical Co., Ltd, Shanghai Sulfuric Acid Works and so on. The produced fundamental chemicals cover over ten categories, and many of them are well known in the country with the trademarks of "Asia Star", "Wujing", "Dianhua", "Double Sulfur" and etc.

1. Acid and Alkali

There are acetic acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, acrylic acid, chlorosulfonic acid, alkylbenzene sulfonic acid, caustic soda produced by means of ion exchange membrane and so forth. The production technology of acetic acid by oxo-synthesis under low pressure reaches the level of mid 1990s in America. The production equipment of caustic soda using ion exchange membrane with a capacity of 0.35 million ton/year is the largest one in our country and the sales volume of acrylic acid occupies more than 35% of the domestic market.

2. Fundamental Organic Chemicals

There are methanol, hydrogen peroxide, ammonia, formaldehyde, biformyl, cis-butenedioic anhydride, ethyl acetate, butyl acetate, acrylate, carbonate, dimethyl sulfate, carbon tetrachloride, C8-C18 higher aliphatic alcohols, industrial naphthalene and etc. The quality of the methanol product from the 0.35 million ton of methanol/year equipment reaches the standards of US Federation AA class and ASTM and the occupation ratio of biformyl in domestic market is over 50%.

3. Coke and Industrial Gas

There are various kinds of cokes, city gas, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, chlorine, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, argon and other industrial gases as well as liquefied gases. Large-scale Texaco coal gasifiers, air separation and pressure swing adsorption (PSA) equipments have been set up, and advanced clean technologies are used in the production of various kinds of gases.
